Stonyridge is the ongoing dream of owner Stephen White who in 1981 returned to New Zealand after successfully sailing the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race.
He then set off to explore, skippering yachts in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Pacific oceans and working in wineries throughout France, Italy, and California. It was during this 3-year adventure that Stephen came to love the culture and lifestyle of the Mediterranean and the great red wines of France, Tuscany, California and Spain.
When Stephen first walked on to the property, there was nothing there; just golden sun burnt grass, wild horses and old broken fences. He fell in love with the property instantly and had no doubt that he was destined to make one of the greatest red wines in the world.
Today Stonyridge is referred to as “One of the Top Ten Must Visit Wineries in the World” by the Guardian UK and topped the list for the best Cabernet Merlot in the Melbourne Age / Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide 2013.
Our wines consistently score over 95 points with world renown critics such as James Suckling. Most recently, our Larose 2019 achieving a 97 point rating and our Pilgrim 2020 winning a score of 96 points.
